Sheila Marking




Sheila Marking, 81, of Mexico, died at 6:15 p.m., on Nov. 27, 2011, at Pin Oaks/Golden Living Center, in Mexico.

Funeral Services will be Thursday, Dec. 1, 2011, at 2:00 p.m., at Pickering Funeral Home with Rev. Joel Krueger officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from noon until the time of service. Burial will be at East Lawn Memorial Park.

Mrs. Marking was born on Aug. 28, 1930, in Cambridge, England, a daughter of Harry and Emily May (Brown) Purkiss. On Aug. 28, 1954, in Cambridge, England she married Darrell "Sarge" Marking, who preceded her in death on Dec. 11, 1997.

Sheila worked as a nurse with the Queen Alexandra's Royal Army Nursing Corps in England. While living in Mexico she worked as a waitress at the Air Park restaurant and the Picador for many years. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Mexico and VFW Auxiliary.

She is survived by one son, Don Marking and wife Jan, Mexico; one daughter, Donna Smith and husband Alan, Centralia; one brother, Donald Purkiss, Hitchin, England; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by three sisters and five brothers.

Memorials may be given to St. John's Lutheran Church of Mexico or National Federation of the Blind. They may be sent in care of Pickering Funeral Home, 403 N. Western, Mexico, MO 65265.
