Stelona Bell Shew-Wampler-Asher

Stelona Bell Shew-Wampler-Asher 91, formerly of Mexico, died at 11:15 a.m. Sunday, November 24, 2013 at Monroe Manor in Paris.

Private family services will be held at a later date with internment at Rose Hill Cemetery, Brookfield, Mo.

Stelona was born February 9, 1922, in Marceline, a daughter of Steve and Fannie (Sprague) Shew. She was a graduate from Marceline High School. In 1942 she married Arthur (Jabe) Wampler. They lived in Kansas for a time during WWII and later returned to reside in Brookfield for the remainder of their married life. Mr. Wampler died April 9, 1970. On June 6, 1971, Stelona married Gavin Asher. Mr. Asher died April 10, 2013.

For a while she owned and operated a women's dress shop in Brookfield prior to employment at Brown Shoe in Brookfield where management labeled her as the best employee for the job. After the closing of Brown Shoe, she worked a few jobs including assisting her husband Gavin as a food vendor at local auctions with their stand, "Gavin's Goodies". Her pies were always a big hit.

One of her favorite places at their home in Brookfield was the art studio built for her by her husband, Gavin, where she expressed her artistic ability with numerous oil paintings.

Stelona is survived by include one sister, Nora Kornbrust of East Moline, Il; a niece, three great-nieces and two nephews.

Along with Gavin, she was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Charley Shew; and her first husband.
