Steven A. Alton, 63, of Auxvasse passed away Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family.

The family will hold a Celebration of Life at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 26, 2024 at Southside Baptist Church 395 Country Meadows Fulton, MO 65251. Prior to the service, the family will receive friends beginning at 2:00 p.m. at the church.

Steve was born in Mexico on December 2, 1960. He was the son of William E. and Doris R. (Dilts) Alton. On November 7, 1981, in Hatton, he married Denise Oberlag. Denise survives at the home.

Steve graduated from Mexico High School and earned an Associate Degree from MACC. For 40 years, Steve dedicated his career to Kingdom Telephone Company, where he was known for his unwavering commitment.

Steve was an active member of Victory Christian Fellowship in Mexico where he served as an Elder. Steve also served on the Men's Ministry Team. Steve dedicated himself to sharing the message of hope and salvation.  During his many stays at Monroe Manor, in Paris, he led 20 individuals to Jesus.  Beyond his church involvement, Steve was deeply engaged in his community, serving as a project leader for the Hatton 4-H Club, where he inspired and guided many young people.

In his day-to-day life, Steve enjoyed a very strong cup of coffee, deep conversation under his gazebo, and was passionate about sharing encouraging words/prayer to all he came into contact with. He didn't know a stranger, and it has been said of him that he could make a telephone pole talk and was quick to turn the conversation to his love of Jesus. In his spare time, he liked raising hogs, hunting and moving dirt with various equipment. Any time grandkids were around, you could find them fishing in the pond and building a bonfire for s'mores. Once he was in his wheelchair, he enjoyed giving rides and was always up for a race. Some of his last words before his passing were "Keep looking up. If I don't see you later, I'll see you there."

In addition to his wife Denise, survivors include one son Andrew Alton (Sarah), of Auxvasse; four daughters, Ashlie Oestreich (Gavin) of Blair, Nebraska, Arica Walker (Cody) of Mexico, Aimee Pashia (Caleb) of Mexico, Ariana Stankovic (Milos) of West Lafayette, Indiana; thirteen grandchildren, Addelyn, Ava, Ty, Beck & Drew Oestreich, Isaac & Ian Walker, Max, Evelyn & Huxley Pashia, Micah & Elizabeth Alton, and David Stankovic; one brother, William Alton Jr., of Columbia; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law Denis and Laverne Oberlag. He is also survived by brothers/sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and a large extended family, whom he loved.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Doris Alton.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to the Victory Christian Church Building Fund, Kingdom Christian Academy Building Fund or the King's Daughters Home. They may be sent in care of Pickering Funeral Home, 403 N. Western, Mexico, MO 65265.
