Sylvia Wilson



Sylvia May Wilson, 82, of Mexico, formerly of Vandalia, died Friday, Jan. 28, 2011, at 3:30 p.m., at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia.


Funeral services will be at 1 p.m., Saturday, February 5th, at Pickering Funeral Home. Visitation will be Saturday from noon until service time. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.


Mrs. Wilson was born on Jan. 18, 1929, in Vandalia, a daughter of Jim Archie Mosie and Pearl Fay (Goins) Hursman. On Jan. 9, 1948, in Mexico, she married John Harrison Wilson, who preceded her in death on Dec. 1, 2006.


Sylvia was a sewing machine operator at Bobbie Brooks Garment Factory for several years and was a member of Southside Baptist Church in Vandalia. She loved doing crafts and to crochet.


She is survived by one son, Mike Wilson, Vandalia; two daughters, Janice Divins, Vandalia, and Karen Greenwood and husband Howard, Springfield; one brother, Archie Hursman and wife Phyllis, Vandalia; 7 grandchildren, Tracy Wilson, Mexico, who was raised in the home, Rob Wilson, Mexico, Tina Harper and Ryan Wilson, Vandalia, Hannah and Patrick Greenwood, Springfield, and Lindsay Divins, Columbia; seven great grandchildren; and one great-great grandson.


In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Jim Robert Hursman; and two sisters, Delores Walters Cox and Betty Walters Barber.
