Thelma Bevell, 89, of Columbia, formerly of Mexico, died at 1:21 p.m., Thursday, March 31, 2016, at Boone Hospital in Columbia.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday April 3, 2016, at Pickering Funeral Home with Rev. Sally Robinson officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 1 p.m. until service time. Burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Park.
Thelma was born Dec. 19, 1926, in Audrain County, a daughter of Alvin and Bessie (Foreman) Miller. On Oct. 20, 1946, in Mexico, she was married to Edward Bevell who preceded her in death on June 24, 2010.
Thelma was a member of First Christian Church in Mexico and she had served on several different committees. She had served as a Den Mother for Cub Scouts and Brownie leader. Camping was a big part of her life and she was a member of Piasas Travel Club. She was also the "director of entertainment" at Tiger Place in Columbia where she resided the past 6 years. She was an avid game player with "marbles" being her favorite.
She and her husband were long-time local Mexico business owners of The Highlander Center and NuTone Cleaners.
Survivors include two sons, Wayne A. Bevell and wife Barbara, Kirksville; Samuel D. Bevell and wife Mary, Imperial; one daughter, Gilaine Link and husband Alan, Kerrville, Tex.; and 7 grandchildren, Scott (Jennifer) and Brian Link, David (Rachel), Jennifer, Alan (Julia), and Max Bevell, and Dakota Grishom; and 3 great grandchildren, Reed and Lucy Bevell, and Katherine Link.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Lawrence Miller; and one sister, Delora Stinnett.
Memorials may be given to the Columbia Area Older Adult Ministry or First Christian Church of Mexico. They may be sent in care of Pickering Funeral Home, 403 N. Western, Mexico, MO 65265.
