Veda C. Wyss



Veda C. Wyss, 82, of Columbia, formerly of Mexico, died on June 15, 2007, at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia.


Mrs. Wyss was born on May 19, 1925, in Audrain County, the daughter of Louis Lee and Mamie Ann (Shepard) Atkins. On Jan. 4, 1941, in Mexico, she married Walter Wyss, who died on Aug. 4, 1995. In addition to being a homemaker, Mrs. Wyss had managed three different retail shops in Mexico for many years. She was a longtime member of First Christian Church in Mexico where she was active in CWF and helped with bereavement dinners. She had also been active in the Widowed Persons Service of Mexico, Rebekah s, and the AMC Auxiliary.


Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, June 21, 2007, at Pickering Funeral Home with the Rev. Joe Barone officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.


Survivors include three sons, John Wyss and wife Barbara, Columbia, Tim Wyss and wife Mary Kay, Mexico, and Fred Wyss and wife Glenda, Columbia; one daughter, Ann Barone and husband Joe, Columbia; one step-brother Bob Bowling, Port Arthur, Texas; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.


In addition to her husband, her parents, brother Virgil Lee Atkins, step-sister Marian Bowling Ford, and stepmother Pearl Atkins preceded her in death.


Memorial contributions may be made to the Columbia office of the Salvation Army or the Alzheimer s Association. They may be sent in care of Pickering Funeral Home, 403 N. Western, Mexico, MO 65265.
