Vernon Benskin

Vernon Benskin, 63, of Sturgeon, died at 5:20 p.m., Friday, January 10, 2014, at University Hospital in Columbia.

Celebration of Life will be held at 7 p.m., Monday, January 13, at Pickering Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 6 -7 p.m.

Vernon was born November 6, 1950, in Mexico, a son of Vernon "Ted" and Coral "Bea" (Dillion) Benskin. On March 11, 1977, in Mexico he married Barbara Golden who survives at the home.

Vernon enjoyed youth softball and baseball. He helped coach and conduct seminars on barrel racing. He was a member of the MSSCA, CMSCC and was Past President of the Thompson Saddle Club.

In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, Roger Henneberry and wife Angie of Mexico, and Matthew Benskin and wife Katlyn of Sturgeon; one daughter, Lisa Henneberry of Columbia; one brother, Larry Benskin and wife Sharon of Hopkinsville, KY; 10 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews;.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Peggy Mechlin; and one uncle Gary Dillion.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cedar Creek Therapeutic Riding Center. They may be sent in care of Pickering Funeral Home, 403 N. Western, Mexico, MO 65265.
