Vesta Williams



Vesta Irene Williams, 82, of Mexico, died at 11:09 p.m., on Friday, September 17, 2010, at Boone Hospital in Columbia.


Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, at First Assembly of God Church with Rev. Everett Bradshaw and Rev. Wayne Long officiating. Visitation will be from 6 8 p.m. tonight at Pickering Funeral Home. Burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Park.


Mrs. Williams was born on February 27, 1928 in Nelson, Mo., a daughter of Lafe Alonzo and Venedia Edna (Dial) Thomas. On March 10, 1946, she married William R. Williams, who preceded her in death on March 6, 1996.


Vesta had worked at Continental Bag, Mexico Public Schools and as an Avon Representative for 18 years. She was a member of First Assembly of God in Mexico. She had volunteered at the Senior Nutrition Center and was an active member of Widowed Persons Service.


Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Barbara Long and husband Wayne, Oklahoma City, Okla., and Cathy Baker, Mexico; four grandchildren, Barry and Christopher Long, both of Oklahoma City, Kelly Ruby, Vandalia, and Troy Baker, Mexico; 16 great-grandchildren, Samantha, Austin, Christopher, and Desiree Ruby, all of Vandalia, Dylan Henderson, Cameron and Braxtin Baker, and Konner Gipson, all of Mexico, Ryan, Andrew, Emily, Hagan, Dillon, Max, Cash, and Fallon Long, all of Oklahoma City.


In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Herman Thomas, and one sister Veta LaRose.
