William A. "Dub" Davis

William A. Dub Davis, 83, of Mexico, died at 8:20 a.m., Sept. 12, 2006, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Mexico.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Sept. 14, at 11:00 a.m. at Pickering Funeral Home with the Rev. Terry Kukuk officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home with a Masonic service at 7:45 p.m. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.

Mr. Davis was born on Dec. 11, 1922, in Centralia, the son of David Martin and Hallie (Roberts) Davis. As a young man he was baptized into the Christian faith. He was a graduate of Centralia High School in the class of 1941. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theater as a member of the 37th Chemical Depot Co. On Aug. 5, 1945, in Mexico, he was married to Bettie Rose Towne, who survives at the home.

He had worked as an insurance salesman and District Manager for National Life and Accident Insurance Co. and later American General Life and Accident Insurance Co. He retired in 1986 after 32 years of service. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge Hebron Lodge No. 354, Royal Arch Mason Mexico Chapter No. 27, Knights Templar Crusade Commandery No. 23, Little Dixie Shrine Club, Moolah Temple, Centralia Council, VFW, and the Order of the Eastern Star, Mexico Chapter 354.

Mr. Davis enjoyed fishing and hunting. Particularly in his younger years he enjoyed quail hunting.

In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, David Allen Davis and wife Carol, Hannibal, and Tim T. Davis and wife Mary Jo, Mexico; two sisters, Mary Frances Bagley, Chenoa, Ill., and Dora Bagley, Centralia; three grandchildren, Christopher Clark Davis, Hannibal, Laura Louise Davis, Columbia, and Steven C. Davis, Mexico; and one great grandchild, Ciara C. Davis, Columbia; and several nieces and nephews.

His parents and two sisters, Margaret Davis and Imogene McBride, preceded him in death.
