Winnie Elizabeth Silver

Winnie Elizabeth Silver, 91, of Mexico, died at 3:47 a.m. today, March 5, 2008, at Audrain Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 7, at Pickering Funeral Home with the Rev. Randall A. Sawyer officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday from 5 until 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Salt River Cemetery.

Mrs. Silver was born on June 17, 1916, in Thompson, a daughter of Harris Sumner and Mamie Thompson (Brown) Davis. On Aug. 27, 1938, in Centralia, she married Claude Silver, who died on Feb. 23, 1974. She was a member of the Salt River Christian Church, and attended the First Christian Church in Mexico.

She had worked at several local restaurants, and over 10 years in the Plaza IGA Deli. She was also caretaker for several individuals in their homes. She had been a Hisey Hoppers 4-H leader, loved flower gardening, and was an avid Cardinals fan. After moving to Pin Oaks she was active in the Residents Council, the Gabby Girls, and was the District Pin Oaks Queen.

Survivors include three sons, Carl Silver and wife Margaret, Mexico, Don Silver and wife Phyllis, Benton City, and Gene Silver and wife Lisa, Mexico; one daughter, Laverne Burnett and husband Jim, Columbia; nine grandchildren, Marty Silver and wife Tory, Mexico, Jennifer Silver, Mexico, Gail Metz and husband John, Columbia, Ellen Hamilton and Rustin, Kansas City, Cindy Sims, Mexico, Wendy Brooks and Keane, Laddonia, Trent Silver and wife Jessica, St. Louis, Jerrod Thompson and wife Jill, Columbia, and Joe Thompson and wife Tracie, Columbia; 14 great grandchildren, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy. She is also survived by her extended family at Pin Oaks whom she dearly loved.

In addition to her husband, an infant daughter, two infant grandsons, and two brothers, Leland Davis and Samuel Edwin Davis, preceded her in death.
